In 1963, Brownie Wise and her colleagues at Tupperware Home Parties perfected a distinctive sales formula: instead of placing plastic housewares on supermarket shelves, they invited American women to host parties at home, where a sales representative demonstrated products directly to friends and neighbors in a friendly atmosphere. That "home party" model built a retail empire that traditional supermarkets could never reach.
