In the early 1980s, American cable companies discovered a paradox: selling channels one by one led customers to buy only what they liked and total revenue fell, but folding hundreds of channels into a single package got nearly everyone to pay more. Bundling is the classic lesson that sometimes offering fewer choices earns more money.
