The Central Bank Credit Pyramid

A single bank only dares lend cautiously, fearing it will lose reserves in clearing, but when the whole system expands together under the Fed's reserve injections, credit multiplies by exactly the inverse of the reserve ratio — the mechanism Rothbard called the credit pyramid.
