General Electric poured more than $4 billion into making Predix the industrial operating system for every factory in the world, targeting $15 billion in annual software revenue, but by 2018 actual revenue was only about $1 billion and GE's own business units quietly refused to use it. Meanwhile Schneider Electric and the bank BBVA used the very same digital business model framework to reinvent themselves successfully. What created such a gulf?
