Together with his elder brother Rong Zongjing, Rong Desheng built the Maoxin–Shenxin flour and textile empire across Wuxi and Shanghai in the early 20th century, surviving the Japanese invasion, kidnappings and political upheaval to become one of China's largest national capitalists and the father of Rong Yiren.
