In 2007, the band Radiohead released the album "In Rainbows" and let fans decide how much to pay, even nothing at all. Observers predicted a revenue disaster. Instead, the band earned more than all of its previous album's revenue combined, and it opened a debate lasting nearly two decades over whether trusting customers is a serious pricing strategy.
